What Erin O’Toole and the Alberta Premier have in common

They’re both a hazard to our health care.

January 27, 2021

Erin O’Toole and Alberta’s Jason Kenney are old friends. They worked together as cabinet ministers for Stephen Harper. They both voted to cut $36 billion dollars from health care. Those cuts weakened our health care system and look where that got us: Underfunded hospitals, overburdened healthcare workers, and Canadians struggling to get the care they need in the middle of a pandemic.

Jason Kenney is now the Premier of Alberta – a province with some of the country’s worst COVID numbers, and his response has been disastrous. Kenney cut 11,000 health care workers in the middle of this crisis, botched the return to school plan, hasn’t taken action to stop the spread, and let his Ministers go on international vacations while people were told not to see their families over the holidays.

That’s made Jason Kenney one of the most unpopular politicians in the country, but Erin O’Toole has praised his handling of COVID — and Kenney’s cutting 11,000 health care workers in the middle of a pandemic.

Do you want Erin O'Toole running the country the way Jason Kenney is running Alberta?

This is the wrong time for Conservative cuts to health care. And it’s the worst time for Erin O’Toole.
